I've heard people go back and forth about this topic, but do you think it matters? I imagine experience and writing ability are most important.

You do realize that you're posing this question to an audience made up of 90% High School students, right?
- godfatherbob No. What matters as most writers state, that you write everyday. You can submit your writing to publications even in high school. If you want a masters it should be after applying yourself in the profession first. Then you will find out if you have any holes that need filling. See what you can do without the higher level degree. Writing workshops are also really helpful so you can share your ideas with others. Even summer writing programs geared toward adults can be helpful.
- cameron If you're getting an undergraduate education at a top notch institution like Northwestern, grad school is a bit redundant. You probably won't learn much more than you already know.
However, nowadays, people look for a finishing degree. A graduate degree definitely would help with job placement, especially in the competitive world of journalism.
