Pursuing a career in financial services requires drive, dedication, an ability to tolerate menial tasks for extended periods of time, and humility. If you persevere, you will be rewarded with significant remuneration and responsibility.

Investment Banker: What you know and who you know= Lots of Money
There are basic and more advanced prerequisites for becoming a successful investment banker, only a few of which can emanate from scholastic training. Since the "devil is in the details" of any company's plans, historical performance or strategies, experience is the #1, #2, and #3 key to successful selection of deals and avoidance of disaster (where everybody loses their money or their jobs). While you're learning the do's and don'ts out of the textbooks and case studies (you will need an MB...

Financial Services Sales Agent: Commercial Lender-Bender
First of all, do NOT go into this field because you like the sound of "banker's hours." This became a myth decades ago. You will, on average, work as many hours in this field as you would in an average professional field (accounting, marketing, etc.). Second, realize that this field is constantly changing. What works today may not work tomorrow, the rules and regulations today may not be the rules and regulations tomorrow. Do not enter this field if you are not comfortable with change.

Go for a flexible work arrangement if that is important to you. Firms realize that in order to retain their employees, they must offer alternative work situations. I mean in terms of hours, locations, and part-time/full-time status. This serves companies in two major ways. First, it boosts morale, which yields greater productivity. Accountant: She Wears Many Hats
Knowledge is your biggest asset. You won’t learn everything in school that you need to know for this career, but the job directs you to what you need to learn and where to find it. The important thing is to actively seek out the information you need. Then you can be a resource to everyone you work with. And that means employers will value you.
