Teaching Artist/Director/Choreographer: Arts Education

Rating: 3.5/5 (2 ratings)
Introduction
Learn as much as you can. I started off in the creative world as an actor but was always learning new skills--choreography, directing, teaching, writing, etc. The more you can do, the more opportunities you will have to do work you love. Also knowing as much as possible enriches you as a person which makes you a more valuable artist and teacher.

Job Function
The best and worst part of this job are one in the same. You are in charge of your own career. On the one hand you are your own boss. You have a lot of say in what you do and do not do. You don't have to answer to anyone else. On the other hand, if something goes wrong, you know its because of you. It causes a great deal of stress and consumes all of your time. So it is challenging and exciting at the same time.
Lifestyle
You have to have a lot of self-motivation to succeed in the artistic world--you can't be doing it just for the money. If you don't love it and have a passion for it, it won't happen. If you do love, have a passion for it and work very hard, you can make it happen--even in the artistic world.

Additional Information
You may not be a superstar but there is always a way for you to make a living in the arts. If it is what you love and have a passion for, and you are not in it for the money and fame, then follow your dreams and you will lead an exciting, scary, challenging, but very rewarding career.
