Insurance Agent: I Sell Peace of Mind

Introduction
Being an insurance agent, while not full of glitz and glamour, is a pretty good way to earn a living. If you’ve a good eye for detail and are a stickler for maintaining policy, then the job should be a breeze for you.

Job Function
The job has its ups and downs: the actual work of it, that is, assessing data and calculating risk, is A-OK in my book. If this kind of statistical work is not your cup of tea, that’s understandable, but for the select few of us who enjoy doing it, becoming an insurance agent is the natural step to take. If there is one negative to the job it is that sometimes a person has to be denied coverage, or even worse, told that they are not covered for the cataclysmic event that has just occurred. There’s nothing to be done about it; it can’t be helped, but it does pull a bit at your heartstrings. Advertisement
Lifestyle
The insurance agent is represented in movies and television, in comedy sketches, in books, as this stuffed-shirt straight man. This stereotype of us is groundless. My coworkers are fun, interesting, great people, and I like to think that I am, too. It’s primarily a desk job with a standard 40-hour week, pretty good pay, and won’t consume your life unless you want it too. I’m happy.
