High School Teacher: Teaching as Mentoring and Earning Trust

Rating: 3/5 (2 ratings)
Introduction
First, how to get there: Challenge yourself to learn and to understand what you learn in detail; learning is like a snowball. Second, by entering the profession, one assumes an immense responsibility, to reliably convey reliable knowledge. Third, know your students, their goals and aspirations, and be truthful with them about what they should expect given how much they work and given how much they could learn. Fourth, a great part of teaching is teaching how to learn, that is, how to become intellectually independent.

Job Function
It is a trip! Standing before dozens of students is an awesome experience, all the more that it is on a daily basis: students rely on you to mold them into what they yet have to comprehend- self-reliant, analytical, knowledgeable adults. On the negative side, administrative duties such as paperwork and meetings always seem to get in the way of "real" work.

Lifestyle
Unlike other jobs I have had, I do not dissociate work and leisure because the essence of my material lies in how society functions and how we function within it. I find myself incorporating into my course material the latest social experiences that are lived by humanity at large.

Additional Information
Teaching is not for everyone, nor is all teaching under the same model and rules. Find your style and your niche, and dig in deeply.
