Education (Adminstrative, Teaching, etc.): Nanny
IntroductionI would tell them that they have to be more than just "interested" in children to consider a job as a nanny. You have to be willing to really listen, to be patient and understanding, and to be ready for anything. It's a job that changes from family to family, from child to child.
Job FunctionIt's a real joy to watch the child or children evolve. The age of the child depends on how much the child changes, but there are always changes.
There are challenges to my job but there will be challenges to every job, so I can't really point out what I don't like about it. Some days are harder than others, but the rewards outweigh whatever issues come up.
LifestyleMy job is mostly all play and no work. I am constantly interacting with the child day-in and day-out for 40 to 60 hours a week. We go to the playground, we stay home and play, we go out for walks, etc. There is so much flexiblity in becoming a nanny and the location choices for the job are endless. I could go to France or I could go to Utah or I could choose to stay right where I am. I think a free spirit who enjoys children would succeed.
Additional InformationIt's a great in-between career for those who aren't sure what to do next. It can suit girls or boys who aren't sure what direction to take their life in next. You can do it for three months or three years. Everything about this career is flexible.
