Stylist/Hairdresser: Be Cool Stay In Beauty School

Rating: 3/5 (48 ratings)
Introduction
On your mark, get the clippers ready, go! So, you want a career in optimizing beauty through hair, then you are reading the right description. I spend my days cutting, coloring, and enhancing hair in a big way. Sometimes, I have the occasional request for a mullet, no worries -- it's all business on top and a big ass party in the back (I draw the line at giving children rat tails). Anyway, I don't want to discuss mullets ad nauseum, but I would say get set to make people look classy on a regular basis. Unless, they make a request to look like Cyndi Lauper in the 1980s.

Job Function
The job is pretty simple and could easily become lucrative, if you become an expert in the field. Pay attention to current trends in cuts and colors, and don't be afraid to experiment. Get comfortable with working with hair of different textures. Also, giving an elderly woman a haircut is especially nice (try not to give her purple hair, even though it's really tempting).

Lifestyle
Hairstyling = F-U-N. There is never a dull moment and there is alway something to do or talk about. You get to work in a comfortable environment. It can get hectic, but raising the pressure is all up to you.

Additional Information
Cosmetology certifications vary from state to state; you probably have to get certification at an accredited beauty school and then take a written exam to get a state license. Getting into the business is quick and painless, so don't sweat it.
