Fashion Design: In Fashion... one day you're in, and the next, you're OUT!
Rating: 3.2/5 (14 ratings)
IntroductionOMG, be fierce. Like, so fierce. You can't be taught to have a good fashion sense. You either know what's in, or you don't. Every design begins with some sort of inspiration, and a good designer can make anything work. I was once given some bed sheets with a zebra print on it and turned it into this fierce dress with a long drape. It was amazing. I'm, like, sooooo good. You can't be taught to be this good, but going to FIT did help me rocket to diva status. Be good with a sewing machine, too. That's a designer's second most useful weapon.
Job FunctionBeing inspired is the best. Seeing some material or print, then breaking out the old pen and pad and whipping up the next new fashion trend is amazing. The only thing better is actually putting the design together and bringing it to life! The worst is having some tasteless snob tell you that they don't like the design. I got a B+ for a drape I did once, and I told the professor that I don't get B+'s. Designers of my caliber only aspire for A's! Whatever, she didn't know what she was talking about anyway.

LifestylePlay, baby. Lots of play. So fabulous. Being a designer is incredibly flexible, and you work on your clock. Listen, you need a fierce personality. If you're quiet or are sensitive, then back up. You're dead right out the gate. Oh, and there is a lot of "competition" out there. Everyone wants to be the next Versace. But, I always say that poseurs will never make it. If you're trying to be like someone else, then you are already out-of-date. You need to keep current. Stay fresh and always be inspired!
Additional InformationI'm going to be on the next Project: Runway. Mark my words, and I will WIN. SO FIERCE.
