Accountant: When I Run I Don't Worry About My Job

Rating: 2.4/5 (8 ratings)
Introduction
Go for a flexible work arrangement if that is important to you. Firms realize that in order to retain their employees, they must offer alternative work situations. I mean in terms of hours, locations, and part-time/full-time status. This serves companies in two major ways.

First, it boosts morale, which yields greater productivity. Secondly, it helps them retain employees. If someone stays with a firm for seven or eight years, for example, then leaves, the company takes a cut in terms of what they have invested in that employee’s training.

There can also be a discontinuity in client relations. Clients may not care who is serving them, but they want to know the job is being done well. When an employee leaves a company, the work has to be redistributed, etc. This can jar up communication and efficiency.

Job Function
What I like best about my job is actually the demand for people with my skills. Financial screw-ups and regulation changes have made auditing a high priority for businesses. I don’t know if these companies actually care about being ethical, but personally, I like that everyone’s being strongly encouraged to play by stricter rules. An accountant’s stature is raised as a result.

Basically, companies have financial discrepancies for three reasons: they are two busy or lazy to be more accurate, they don’t have someone to regularly address those needs, or someone’s trying to skim something off the top. My job addresses all of them. And there is some power to that which I find appealing. I am both the person who controls the information and corrects it.

What I don’t like is that there is a greater workload and more stress in positions now than there used to be. But if you want an important job, responsibility and demands on your output are going to be great. That’s true with anything.

Lifestyle
I run. There are times when I have less room to play. The good thing is that many firms take on additional part-time employees to help out with the workload during busy seasons.

Additional Information
Get certified. If you want to work in corporate accounting, the best thing you can do is have a CPA or CMA title to boast. Corporate accounting is a cool situation. You have the chance to voice ways to improve a business’s daily operations.
