Forest Worker/Conservationist: Regrowth in a Wasteland

Rating: 5/5 (12 ratings)
Introduction
A forest worker can work in many different areas, they might work at tree farms or at greenhouses; they might work for camp grounds or city, state or federal parks. I actually work with loggers. Surprised, are you? How can I assist the people responsible for deforestation and call myself a conservationist? The reason is simple…

Job Function
It is my job to paint off sections of the forest, which will determine where loggers may cut down trees and where they are restricted from doing so. It is also my duty to plant seedlings in the wake of deforestation, and to monitor the growth in these areas, making sure that everything is going according to plan. I must admit, the company I work for surprises me: most logging companies find ways around having to hire people like myself, being perfectly happy to leave a forest as a baron waste (some of them, I think, would even salt the earth if they could do it for free). This company has ten or twelve of us conservationists working for them. The world needs wood, even I understand that, and I like being able to help provide lumber without having to devastate our planet.

Lifestyle
The work is time consuming: I have to travel to where the logging is being done, and stay there for extended lengths of time. Usually where I go is not far from home, it’s not like I go to the heart of the Amazon, but it’s far enough that I cannot commute between home and work.

Additional Information
Save the trees, because the planet is screwed if we don’t…more so than it already is.
