Marketing Manager: It's a long way to the middle, if you want to rock and roll

Rating: 2/5 (89 ratings)
Introduction
Long ago, I asked a wise Vice President what his definition of success was. He replied, "Learn and then do those things you are not presently skilled at doing." His initials formed the acronym AGE and for the next year, I wrote that little saying down every month on my desk calendar. At the end of the day, you have to work hard, often harder than the next person, and desire to learn more about how to help the company/organization. It ultimately becomes 'servant leadership'.

Job Function
Best: constant change, seeing the big picture, feeling like my work helps/matters
Worst: the unimaginable, unpredictable threats to the 'peace' of your day. These challenges often come from nowhere and disrupt what you have planned. But once they arrive, they become the challenges that make each day different
Lifestyle
We lived in Australia for 4 years and the saying there is that "Australians work to live while Americans live to work."
Australians, generally blessed with better weather and nicer people, know that the beach beckons and they go there. Americans believe that if they work 80 hours a week, they will feel fulfilled. I'm not sure that's right.
My career does not really offer flexible hours or location. The best personality is probably non-entrepreneurial and great conservatism. It's not a bad thing. It's just that my type of job requires reliability.

Additional Information
Life is a highway, enjoy the journey. Be kind to others. Protect the environment. Batteries not included. Call your Mom or a loved one. Shoot the three every now and then. Be the ball. Chocolate cake is good for you.
