Musical Artist: Opera Singer

Rating: 4/5 (2 ratings)
Introduction
Be willing to accept giving up a lot of things. The travel tends to take the place of a social life, the struggle of finding work replaces a decent pay check, and the long hours of practicing and coaching when you aren't vocally "sound" on a particular day may come as disappointments. However, the reward of commanding a stage and bringing some of the most beautiful operas to life is a feeling that cannot be explained in words. It is pure exhilaration.

Job Function
There is nothing daily about my job. It all depends on how my voice is that particular day. On a good day I can spend hours working diligently on learning music, translating a text in Italian, German, French or a number of other languages, or figuring out how to build a character based on an intention. On a bad day I can be busy working on all these skills with the addition of figuring out how to remove excess tension in the body and the voice.

Lifestyle
My lifestyle is very rewarding in the end. The lifestyle is a great deal of work rehearsing, staging, and memorizing, but the work you put in only results in bigger performances. A person that is very determined and can rise up from defeat easily should pursue this career.

Additional Information
To say that opera is a dying art is an understatement. Opera is becoming more accessible to people of any age.
