Musical Artist: Singing for My Supper

Rating: 4.5/5 (2 ratings)
Introduction
If you have immense pleasure when you sing, then pursue a career in music. Biggest piece of advice I can pass on to another musical artist: Take all the dance, acting, language you can. Find the best teacher, accept criticism, then find your own voice.

Job Function
My favorite moments often occur in the practice room, working on a phrase or collaborating with other musicians. Performing is fabulous, and great preparation makes it even more exciting. I love sharing music with the public and also just the physical sensation of singing. I don't like memorizing, repeating the same phrase over and over. Even though I say my favorite moments are in the practice room, at times, it is a challenge to find the discipline to practice every day.
Lifestyle
I love to travel and meet new people. As an opera singer, one works on a piece of musical drama with a team of artists. At times this is a real challenge as there are many personalities at play. There are times of great solitude. And moments of great uncertainty. One needs to be fine with not knowing for where one's next paycheck will come. And the financial investment is enormous.

Additional Information
In my pursuit of a career in music, I have discovered my own love of life. At times I have to really work to keep my ego out of the way, in order to let the music pass through clearly, to reach the public. It is a pleasure to participate in living art. I cannot stress enough the importance of a strong background in dance, art, language and technique. After that, talk to everyone in the business and find your own way.
