Musical Artist: Opera Singer
IntroductionMake sure you want it desperately and there is NOTHING else on this earth that you’d rather do, because it’s a hard but rewarding road.
Job FunctionThe best part is performing and studying music, no question about it.
But there’s a lot of other things that come with this business like negotiations, networking, and “schmoozing” that you don’t learn in school.
One of the worst things is that there will be times when you desperately want to be home with your family because of a wedding, or death or illness which you will have to miss out on. Its very helpful to have an understanding family. But you have to ask yourself if you have the strength yourself to deal with these tragedies on your own, without the support of your family. My teacher in my Bachelor's Degree told me “No one pays you to perform, you’d do that for free. They pay you to be away from your family when it matters most.” And he was right.
LifestyleMy work is play! So it never feels like work!
But, It is a feast or famine business and you have to have the kind of personality that can deal with that.
As for flexible hours and location- you have to take the jobs you get! And if that means moving your life to the sticks for your first gig, then you live there! And you can find something great about ANYWHERE you go for a job.
You have to be a strong, dedicated, happy person to survive.
