Farmer: Potato Farming

Rating: 1/5 (89 ratings)
Introduction
I don’t really know how one becomes a farmer. My folks owned a farm, I helped farm it. They died, gave me the farm, and I still farm it. I mean, I hire some guys sometimes, we got a couple of dudes who come in in the summertime to bail hay, but they ain’t farmers, and don’t consider themselves such. Well, if you want to be a farmer, I think you got to go buy a farm.

Job Function
There isn’t anything better in the world than being a farmer. Getting dirty and having the sun beat down on you, living on just the sweat of your brow and the fruit of the earth. It’s liberating, really.

Lifestyle
If you’re a farmer, you ain’t just a guy who farms to make a living; you have to be a farmer through and through, morning, noon, and night. There ain’t a moment's rest, ‘cause your livelihood is based in those crops. Anything goes wrong with them, and you’re up a creek.

Additional Information
I grow mostly potatoes. It’s good business, they’re just about the easiest damn things to grow (a bitch to harvest, though) and people will always be buying potatoes.
