While I am an econ. major, the School of International Service is an amazing school, and DC is by far the best place to be studying politics and international relations. Therefore, most of the students here are SIS majors, and it is almost assumed that you are one, too. The school of communications and the school of business are also very good, too. American University: An amazing opportunity!
If you are into small, personal classes, great politics and atmosphere, and a great selection of majors, come here. The size is right - the student population isn't huge but the resources of the University are rather extensive. Thus, you get the feel of a small school with the resources of a much bigger one. American University: AU isn't a bad choice
The school is a lot better than it gets credit for, but it definitely fits some people better than others. You'll find very politically conscious people here. Most students are political science or international relations students, however, it also has a strong communications school. In terms of personalities, you'll find a mix of everyone on campus; nerds, jocks, etc.

American University: Work and Play Hard at AU!
I transferred to AU from Goucher College in Baltimore. At Goucher you never saw people on the quad and everyone was very very cliquey. AU is a stark contrast. I chose the school because I am interested in Graphic Design and we have an amazing, small Graphic Design program. It's one of the best you can find in the country that isn't in an art school. American University: My backup...
It has a great small campus feel for a big city school. Don't go here if you are really into sports, no one really cares here. Our Business school and School of International Service is ranked in the top 10, but the overall school rank is not too high.

American University: Don't Go Here
This school will do anything it can to sucker you into going: promoting itself as being a great place where you can party and all voices will be heard. Then you get there and learn that its a dry campus and if you express an opinion that doesn't fit in with the schools philosophy you can get in trouble.

American University: Something for Everyone
There really isn't any type of person that wouldn't fit in here. American really boasts an atmosphere that accepts every clique, personality, and individual. Punks, jocks, athletes, preps, bookworms, activists are all to be found here; however, the student body doesn't feel fragmented. American University: Dont go to AU if you are a cool person or from the South
Students that don't care about academics, are homophobic, or Nazis should not go to American because there are alot of gays/ Jews at my school. If you like white frats/soros then its a cool place to go. But if you are a cool person who is an American citizen that does normal shit then this school might not be the best for you. American University: Not my dream school...
I chose this school basically on a whim, I don't really know why. American is a very politically oriented school. The majority of the students are International Studies majors. A student that has little interest in politics and world affairs should not go here. I am a businees major and although the business school is good, it is not the greatest atmosphere.

American University: American University is for you
American University is an incredible school. It's located in a great, safe area of Washington, DC. You will never complain about not having anything to do. The campus has a decent amount of green space -- much more than GW and Georgetown. Overall, the faculty are amazing.

American University: Not bad...for my backup
I chose AU because I was waitlisted to Vanderbilt. I didn't want to go originally, but learned to enjoy it. If you want to have a social life, you gotta pretty much go greek or get on a sports team.
