Brown: Midwest Guy's View on Brown
You have to be really self guiding and willing to everything on your own. Brown does not hold your hand and is not very comforting.

Brown: Small classes; amazing Professors; even better Students
Brown is whatever you make of it. If you want to do something, anything at all, there's a way to do it. However, you have to reach out and grab the opportunity yourself because it won't just be handed to you. Brown is the laid-back, unpretentious Ivy. People are friendly and easy to relate to. What's more, there's virtually no competition between students, which leads to a friendly and collaborative learning environment. Uptight, cutthroat people don't belong here. ...

Brown: Brown Town
Although you have ample time to choose your path, the sooner you can figure out what you want to concentrate in, the better. You give yourself more time to explore other interests withouth running into time constraints to complete your requirements. Enjoy your free time, but even when you just have to study the libraries have a social feeling as well. If you like to go out to clubs or parties 5 nights a week and sleep all day don't go to Brown. If you can find a balance between social an...

Brown: Freedom!
Brown should be on the top of everyone's list. If you don't know why, walk around the campus. Once I set foot here, I knew I had to go to Brown. If you don't enjoy having fun, making friends, and being in a relaxed yet enriching academic environment, stay away from Brown. Otherwise you will fit in fine.

Brown: Brown Finds A Space For Everyone
When thinking about going to Brown, you should take a good hard look at yourself and say, "Am I werid?" If so proceed and ask yourself, "Am I proud of my weirdness?" if you answered yes to both questions than fill out an application for Brown ASAP. Seriously, though Brown is a great place for everyone and it is the most tolerant Ivy both socially and acamdemically. Nevertheless, I would say it's very important to have a vision of yourself and what you would like to get out of college. Becaus...

Brown: Theater and Baseball
I chose Brown mainly because I play baseball here and they recruited me to play/ But also, the curriculum - it’s open, wide open, and they have an incredible theatre program. Business/econ is a good time. A lot of math, a lot of theory, and I’ve never been a good writer so I did the Econ trail. I don’t know what else to say. If you want to go work in New York or Wall Street it’s the place to be. But my main focus isn’t econ, it’s really it’s the theatre arts. Theater ...

Brown: Great TAs, Drinking in Your Room
I actually came to Brown more because of a summer program I had done here. It was off-campus by the Naragansett Bay. We lived in tents, and our “classroom” there was actually a semi-circle of old beat up couches, and our alternative classroom was actually the Naragansett Bay itself. It really gave me a feel for what Brown was like as a school because it was an Environmental Leadership program and every thing we did was outside it really involved the students. We were learning completely ...

Brown: Exclusive Parties in the Public Lounge: On Probation for Dressing Up?
First of all, I really liked the campus. Being from a city, I didn’t want to go into a very rural place where I didn’t have the option—I like that I have the option of going downtown into Providence and kind of getting off campus, but there’s still a really pretty campus. I really like the Open Curriculum because, since I’m not that focused right now and I don’t know what I want to do, there’s a lot of room to experiment and kind of try different classes. The fact that you ...

Brown: Im off-campus, thank God! Thank God!
What really amazed me about Brown was the campus. I came up here 4 years in a row for a Brown invitational, which is a track meet they have for high school students, and I was just amazed by the campus. I did a little research- the no curriculum thing is pretty enticing, so that was also a big factor. Most schools have some kind of core curriculum or Gen Ed. We have none of that. By graduation, you have to complete the requirements for some major which is potentially a major you create y...

Brown: Swimming, Eclectic Guys, No Scene
I actually chose Brown because I was an athlete. Swimming brought me to Brown. I don’t know if I would have chosen it, but I’m very glad that I did because being from R.I. I know that Brown is very eclectic. A lot of people look at it as very diverse and having a lot of weird people, but I came here and it totally changed my life and I was very happy that I came. I actually stopped swimming and I still like Brown. I don’t think athletics are really emphasized here as much as I, com...

Brown: Depends on Your Scene
At Brown, there are required classes for your majors. So in order to fulfill a major, you need a certain amount of classes or types of classes, for whatever that major requires. But in general, it allows you to explore things that you may or may not be interested in. You’re not restricted to a freshmen core, per se, or even a sophomore core. In a lot of schools, bigger state schools, you wouldn’t start your major until sophomore year. Whereas I’ve had the opportunity to take quite a f...

Brown: A Foreigner Feels Welcome
I’ve had classes where I can literally have done absolutely nothing and I can still get by fine. I have classes where during the finals I’m in the library for like 72 hours straight and I eat there and I sleep there and life is really sad. As an international student I find that people here are very tolerant and accepting and you can basically get along with anyone and it’s not a big deal where you’re from or what your experiences are because somehow you draw similarities anyway, but ...

Brown: A Great Political Campus
I applied to a lot of other schools and got into a few other Ivies and took the tours and just found that Brown was the place that jived with me politically. As far as the discipline I was interested in- I was always interested in international relations so it just happened to be the right choice for me, and I promised myself I wasn’t going to go to school close to home and I ended up here anyways. I went to South Africa a year ago to study abroad. Fantastic experience. University of Capeto...

Brown: A Great School
You can really just get a flavor of a lot of different concentrations while also, just staying focused on what you need to do for your major. You just have a certain quota of classes that you have to pass before you graduate—I think it’s 32 classes you have to pass before you graduate—so when you fail, it doesn’t affect your GPA; when you pass, if you just get a pass in a pass/fail course, it doesn’t sway your GPA in either direction, but it’s just another credit that you’ve earne...

Brown: A Little Bit of Everything
I would definitely say we do have sports, obviously, you know we’re division 1 Ivy. That being said, it’s fair to acknowledge that Brown does not have a strong football team, and not necessarily the strongest of baseball or basketball or any of the very typical sports. We tend to have tremendous support of obscure sports. We have an awesome Water Polo team. Great equestrians, Number 1 in the Northeast. Ultimate Frisbee- which is actually not a team sport, it’s a club sport- is the Num...

Brown: A Very Liberal Ivy
There are no required classes- our open curriculum here is probably one of the best parts about Brown. I didn’t realize that until I came here and I never had to take a math class again! But it allows you to take just whatever you want. Most students don’t just take classes in one department. Usually that freedom makes students want to try more things. Even though I’ve never taken a math class except for Statistics, I’ve tried a whole bunch of different things I never thought I woul...
