Duke: Go, Duke! Go, Duke, Go!!!
It should be pretty clear to anyone applying to Duke that you have to be willing to meet academic challenges in order to succeed at this school. Duke can be tough. Sure, you can mosey your way through school with easy courses - but at Duke, "easy" is a relative term. It's not impossible; I mean, I'm a huge lazybones and a top-rate procrastinatory, but I made Dean's List. One really important thing (and I think this goes for any college) is writing ability. Though I won't lob...

Duke: I wish this could last forever...
I chose Duke because of the people, first and foremost. Everyone here is so talented and interesting. From varsity nationally recognized athletes, published writers, dancers, musicians, children of politicians, etc. everyone has something to contribute. The students here are diligent workers but also love to have a good time either at a sporting event, tailgate, frat party, or a school-sponsored event. Do not come if you are just trying to be a book-worm or want to party all the time. There...

Duke: Duke becomes a huge part of your life.
When considering Duke, keep in mind that here, you work hard and you play hard. Classes are demanding, there is a lot of homework and stuff to do. The upside is that there is also lots of fun stuff to do, between curricular activities and social life and sports. Duke will expand your mind in several directions. The only kind of student who should stay away from this school is the kind who is used to living in a big city and wouldn't like to live in a small town.

Duke: D-U-K-E
I chose Duke because I liked the size of the undergraduate student body (about 6,000), loved the campus, was excited about the sports, and thought the weather would be great. I would recommend that someone who enjoys city life, a wide variety of bars and clubs, or shopping (besides online!) would seriously consider how important those things are to them before attending this university. Also, one would ideally have a car here, because there is no viable public transportation.

Do not come if you are too liberal. You won't find yourself well-accepted. But if you come as a staunch conservative, you'll find you hate everyone here. I came for athletics.

Duke: Duke Just Rocks!
Duke is the most amazing place on earth!! I picked it over the ivy leagues because you can get an amazing education but without it being quite so maliciously cut-throat. Plus, it exemplifies work hard, play hard. There's something for everyone here. Anyone who has the grades and activities to get in should definately consider it. I cannot imagine being as happy with any other school. Duke is incredibly beautiful, and although Durham isn't the greatest, it isn't horrible either....

Duke: Basketball and More Basketball
I came here with absolutely no idea what I wanted to major in and or do – so the great thing is – you don’t have core requirements you have to meet your freshman year – you have to take a writing 20 course – you also have to take a seminar course freshman year, but you don’t have to take this history, this chemistry, this and that – it’s just really nice cause you can take anything that sounds interesting.

Duke: A Perfect Fit
When I visited here – when I was a senior – I looked here in September and just fell in love with the place. I loved the campus. I loved the Duke Forest. I’m a person who likes to get out, be able to run or be able to go hiking in the forest or go sit in the Duke Gardens over there and just be outside and it a beautiful place to be outside. Beautiful architecture. You feel like it’s just a good place all around to be. When I first got here, I applied early to Duke and that’s where I wanted to go...

Duke: Duke is Changing (for the better)
I think part of Duke is really growing and changing a lot for the better which is great – a lot more students that are interested in the arts are coming here for the first time. It’s weird, it’s like whoever you talk to has a totally different perspective, so some people really are completely infatuated with Greek life, that’s there entire – not their entire, but that’s a huge part of their life and now, I was in a sorority for freshman, sophomore and junior year, and I deactivated this year, so...

Duke: Profs connect with Students
Overall I guess your average Duke student isn’t probably the friendliest of people. There is a lot of snobbery; there are a lot of cliques, and things like that. Really it’s not terribly hard to find people like you if you’re not like that. If you are snobby, then I guess you’ll find you’re place here too.

Duke: Basketball and Niches
When I got here, I discovered that it was more beautiful than I thought it was it terms of the campus itself. I guess it was initially disappointing in terms of students, just because it’s so – well, it’s very segregated. Everyone has their little niche and it’s kind of hard to intermediate between them. But you kind of get over it – you find a way to intermediate the situations.

Duke: Lots of Diversity
East Campus is the freshman campus, only freshman live there and it’s a dry campus. It’s really beautiful, lots of grass, lots of open space, and lots of symmetry. East campus there is bricks. West campus has a much more Gothic feel. We have our own quarry – a special stone for all the buildings at Duke and it’s absolutely gorgeous. However, if you happen to be in an un-air conditioned dorm when you first get here in August, it is the South, it is North Carolina, and if you’re not on the first f...
