If you are looking for the typical college campus, then this is NOT the place for you. GW's campus is very unique and definitely ties in both the university and the city. GW does have a distinct campus but it is heavily influenced by the city.

GW is an amazing city school with a campus environment feeling. Washington DC is a great city with endless possibilities. What other school puts you so close to the White House, Congress and some really great bars? Socially the school is unbelievable. Although the club/bar scene is the main staple, frats parties to occur. If I had to do it all over again I’d make the same choice to attend GW.

GW - GWU - George Washington: Solid School
I chose GW because of its urban location. Being in DC is a huge advantage not only for social life but also academically: the Smithsonian museums are an incredible resource and the opportunities for internships are unparalleled. GW students definitely need to be independent learners to a certain extent because professors are going to expect that you use the city's resources without them telling you.

GW - GWU - George Washington: What You Make Of it!
I chose GW because it was gaaaay (Ed. note: we assume he means accepting of all orientations) and my mother approved because it has a large Jewish population. Coming from the Northwest, I would say it was a bit of a culture shock...but now that I've gotten used to the atmosphere I NEVER want to go back. This is a largely pre-professional school and there is a heavy emphasis on internships, but I feel like just about any student can find his/her place in the campus social scene. Coming from a...

GW - GWU - George Washington: Thoughts from an ex GW student...
I chose GW because I wanted to go to school in an urban environment. GW definitely provides that. The campus is in an awesome location, right in the heart of DC. Pretty much every part of the city (and surrounding areas) is easily accessible from GW's Foggy Bottom campus. I loved that about it. However, the coolness of the campus, and my love for DC was not enough to sustain me through four years there. As some people mentioned, GW is chalk-full of snooty, rich, oblivious kids from NY,...

GW - GWU - George Washington: Hail to the buff!
GW is a school that actually cares about its students. The classes can be challenging, but not totally overwhelming. There is a pretty strict core curriculum, but there are also tons of options within that. I would recommend taking the Dean's Seminars freshman year. Dean's Seminars are open only to freshman, and they are courses created and designed by teachers that have an interest in a particular subject. These classes are small and because the teacher created it themselves chances are...

If you're looking for a city school, you should definitily look into GW. As far as what you will face here, there is always something happening in the city. For example, you might be woekn up by the presidents motorcade, or be able to see the dalai lama. The school is big, but it isn't huge, and the campus is the city, so you have a mix of office buildings and class rooms. Given the choice, i would definitly choose it again, even though the tuition is a bit pricey.

GW - GWU - George Washington: Frats at GWU?
The George Washington experience is pretty good. I’m in a fraternity so I can tell you that fraternity life is really good here. They do a lot of things with that. The partying is good, first year or two when you’re a freshman sophomore, like to go out to the clubs and what not. Then when you come of age, 21, go out to the bars. Lots of good bars around here. There is a very good bar scene, so that’s great for the college students.

GW - GWU - George Washington: Fight Songs and More...
Some of the teachers were disappointing freshman year because you have those general classes, like the general English classes you have to take for GCR’s. I’m in Columbian School which is the arts and sciences program, but once you get into higher classes you can find some professors who are pretty amazing. Coming from Europe I never had the experience of having a fight song. I learned what a fight song was like two months after coming here. I think socially, it depends on the dorm that you...

GW - GWU - George Washington: Fantastic
GW has been fantastic; it’s a great school, great opportunities. The biggest thing that brought me here was the environment. It’s a city school, which I was looking for and you utilize the city a lot. Most importantly- the extracurricular activities. The classroom experience is only one component of the college.

GW - GWU - George Washington: Watch Out
I feel like UPD is a big presence on campus so it makes me feel safe. There’s always MPD around. My dorm Thurston is pretty close to the White House, so if you go to 7-11 which is next door, you’re going to see a combination of secret service, MPD, UPD, so you’re always safe at 7-11. But around campus in the freshman dorms there are UPD officers at the desk, like in Thurston. And then you see them around patrolling, there are blue lights all over campus. I think a lot of other campuses ha...

GW - GWU - George Washington: Lots of Rich Kids
Life at GW differs depending on who you hang out with. There are many different groups of people at GW. There are people who go out every night of the week. Go to clubs every night. There are people who never go out, just hang out. It’s kind of hard to at first find people that you know you want to be with. Because if you look at it, sometimes the people are scary at first. They come off pretty not nice. You gotta look for it but eventually you will find people that you like to hang out with.
