Rice: Setting the Record Straight
Ok so Rice has received what seems like massive amounts of positive publicity that, to me at least, seems somewhat unwarranted. From my observations, you need to be a certain type of person for these glowing accounts to apply to you--usually socially awkward, sexually inexperienced, and obsessed with the sciences. If you are like this and are content with your lifestyle, then, by all means, come here. If you're not, or are interested in broadening your horizons, then my recommendation would be t...

Rice: Did not meet my expectations
I thought I would like the small close community. But one thing about small is that it is boring. Cannot emphasis how boring it is here, especially week nights. Houston may be the third or fourth largest city, but are you kidding me? This place is like a ghost town with no night life. And this is especially true for weekends. The downtown Macy's here close at 5 pm on Saturday. Streets are completely deserted at on weekends, and I am NOT exaggerating.

Rice: Fried Rice
Rice is not for normal people. The "average" Rice student is incredibly smart, but doesn't take himself too seriously. If you're not quite normal, Rice would be a perfect fit for you. Another thing to consider is that the students who thrive at Rice are very enthusiastic about college life; they want to get involved and do crazy stuff in the name of their residential college. If you're a mostly reserved person, you may find this atmosphere a bit scary at first. I chose Rice because of the people...

Rice: More than the sum of its parts...
As others have stated, Rice is a place for people who expect to work in college. Do not come here unless you are prepared to work for your grade. Also, do not come here expecting to be the big fish you were in high school. College isn't about being the best anyways; it's about being your best. I chose Rice because it was the best school that I got into. I knew I would be getting a good education (and a great diploma) and also I knew that it would push me beyond my comfort zone. The c...

Rice: The Party School for Nerds
First off - on the Rice application, don't put rice in the box where it directs you to fill it in with something that appeals to you. Its not that original, and it gets the admissions office all messy. Anyway, on whether or not to apply to Rice: don't think that you won't get in because you don't have perfect grades or test scores. Rice admits alot of students that aren't necessarily straight A students, they look for all different kinds of intelligence. I chose Rice becaus...

Rice: Best school ever!
If you're not the sort of person who likes working hard, don't bother applying to Rice. You won't get in, anyway. Rice students work. They have plenty of fun, too, just like anyone else, but work always comes first. Classes won't be easy at Rice, even if they were easy in high school. No matter how great you think you are, remember that everyone at Rice kicked butt in high school, and many people have to get used to being in the middle of the (extremely talented) pack. Yo...
