UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: Awesome in Nearly Every Way
If you're coming into UT, at least have an idea of what you want to do later on in life. It'll help. I chose it because I've loved the school since fourth grade. I come from Texas originally, and as someone who loves the state, the tradition and prestige here was initially appealing. When I visited, it was even better. There's something for everyone here, and groups on campus do a great job of shrinking it all down so that everyone can feel like they fit in. The only folks who need not app...

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: The Ultimate Undergrad Experience
I chose UT Austin because it has EVERYTHING. Literally! Almost every major imaginable, from Mandarin Chinese to Petroleum Engineering to Design to Finance. You can always find an awesome, one-of-a-kind class to fulfill those "required" hours - I took Ancient Egyptian History for a humanities requirement! UT Austin is the sort of place where if you have the drive to do something, everything in the system is set up to help you along - if you can navigate the waters. If you're more of the ty...

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: UT ROCKS!
UT is amazing if you love sports and want a college with an awesome social life and education. If you want to come here, you should love the idea of meeting hundreds of new people, because you will. UT offers every course you could possibly want to take and Austin is the coolest city in the world. If you even remotely think you might want to go here, visit and you will fall in love with the city and campus in a heartbeat.

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: A Bargain
One of the main reasons I chose to come to UT-Austin was because of the bargain. The price you pay (about 3600 a semester) for the education you receive is unbelievable. An education like this at most other schools will cost you about three times as much. Also, once you are in, almost anyone who is willing to put forth the effort (you wouldn't be here if you weren't willing), can succeed. Just like at any university, professors expect you to do your work, but if you ever have trouble, th...

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: Public Ivy and Party School
The biggest advice I can give to a high school senior considering attending this great university is: research your major and have a back-up plan. If you are considering majoring in a science or becoming an engineer you should know that those colleges can at times feel like jobs, where you must work 8-10 hours a day to get by, while colleges like liberal arts are more easy going and usually instead of homework, you have major exams 2 or 3 times in a semester. Having a back-up plan is probably ...

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: I love it, but it's not for everyone...
First off, I'd say the biggest draw of UT is the price: it's a huge institution backed by tons of donors and you receive top-quality instruction, paticularly for the very low tuition you pay. Keep in mind, however, that UT is absolutely enormous, and this can be overhwelming to some people. Also, for out-of-staters, while Austin is a very liberal town for Texas (and pretty liberal on a national scale), there are still many Longhorns who may have views that seem strange or ignorant to you...

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: UT is the best!
I chose UT because I wanted to stay in Texas and because I wanted to go to the best school in Texas, which is clearly UT. I love it here because UT is so big so there's so many different kinds of people here, so I think anyone can fit in. Austin is a great, fun, and gorgeous city so you will love life outside of campus. UT is also great because even though its big, there are like 900 student organizations, where you can get to know people and where it feels like the university isn't as b...

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: Is my blood supposed to be Burnt Orange?
There are too many reasons to go to THE University of Texas at Austin. From sports to academics and everything in between, why wouldn't someone want to go here? As everyone knows, the Longhorns are the NCAA College Football Champions for the recently completed season and the defending National Champions in Baseball. We are currently ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA Men's basketball poll. I could go on and on about the prestige of this program, but one thing that sets us apart is our fans...

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: Paradise- School gets in the way sometimes . . .
To out of state prospectives: Do not be discouraged by the overwhelming percentage of in state students. They keep it that way by law, but Texas is a huge state so even though the vast majority of the students are Texan the student body is anything but homogenous. Going to UT was probably the best decision I've made yet. The education I am getting is invaluable, and the social life is insanely perfect.

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: Music Capital of the World
I think I chose the University of Texas because I wanted to get away from home, but also to go somewhere I’d never been and I did a lot of research into Austin and just the fact that it’s the live music capital of the world. That was definitely a big pull for me. It’s really cool because you have a lot of big bands that will come here like Incubus and Greenday. But you’ll also have live music pretty much at any coffee shop that you go to and a lot of my friends are aspiring musicians. So that’s ...

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: It's Possible to Find Good TAs
If you’re accepted to UT you can go to either Liberal Arts or the School of Natural Sciences. And then you have to apply to the school of business, the school of communications, the school of social work. So you have to apply to these schools and I would say that as far as UT is concerned all of these colleges are fairly highly ranked. And I’m in the college of liberal arts and everybody like hates liberal arts, but I love liberal Arts, I mean, it’s definitely my passion. I’ve really enjoyed ...

UT Austin - University of Texas Austin: Austin Rocks
There’s always something to do in Austin especially as a college student. This is the perfect city to me: you’ve got the best of both worlds as far as like the big city kind of feel, you have enough of that and then you have kind of like a real small intimate kind of feeling too whereas like Dallas is so huge.
