AU isn't a bad choice
Rating: 4.9/5 (65 ratings)
IntroductionThe school is a lot better than it gets credit for, but it definitely fits some people better than others. You'll find very politically conscious people here. Most students are political science or international relations students, however, it also has a strong communications school. In terms of personalities, you'll find a mix of everyone on campus; nerds, jocks, etc.
Campus Life and Social LifeUmm, DC kind of lacks nightlife for people under 21. You can go out to dance clubs, but other than that, your best best is to hit up a frat party or some other house party. Once you know people, you'll find apartment parties and drinking on campus in rooms is also very common (even though the halls are technically dry). Once you're 21 though, there's lots of bars around the city.

AcademicsWe have some of the best most inspiring professors and also some of the worst. You'll find that there's certain professors that are extremely accompished and very knowledgable about their field and others who should not be teaching. I also find AU professors are generally very active in their field - you'll find many profs that work second jobs at firms, agencies, and organizations around DC. Political Science, International Relations and Communications are all strong - math and sciences are weak.
Student BodyThe student body is an eclectic mix - jersey trash, up-tight new yorkers, political activists, frat/sirority types, rich, poor, international students, laid-back people from the west, etc. everyones here - you just have to look for them.
In Closing...I actually really love this school. It grows on you. It's a charming size where you'll always see someone familiar, but you'll also always be meeting new people. The campus is beautiful and in the best part of DC. The academics are great if you find the great teachers and do the right programs. The clubs are active. Sports are kind of absent.
