Bad Social, Great Results, Business Folks Only
Rating: 1.4/5 (42 ratings)
IntroductionDo not consider applying to Babson unless your goal is to be successful in business and you're serious about pursuing it. Everything else that comprises a college - social life, extracurriculars - plays a distant second to the college's training program in the business world, and its stellar reputation as such testifies to that. Having said that, your success is whatever you make it: the faculty doesn't hand out golden tickets to success, they just equip you with the resources to get there if you have what it takes.
Campus Life and Social LifeI'll be honest, the social scene here sucks in comparison to anywhere your friends will be going. The administration and various student organizations make futile attempts to improve the situation but they can't save a sinking ship. It's not a total dead zone - there are smaller parties and activities if you take the initiative and look for them - but it's not one of those campuses where you stumble out of your dorm on a Friday night and follow the flow of the crowd to an intense rager. There is no crowd. There is no rager. Just people getting insanely drunk in small groups. On the bright side, needless to say, there is alcohol around...and kids as driven as Babson students have to be are even more motivated to knock a few back when the weekend rolls around. Don't worry, you'll do some things you regret.

AcademicsWorkload is incredibly difficult but interesting, particularly during Freshman year since it's essentially boot camp and there's a sense of community bonding over the all-nighters...and the fact that for the first time you're surrounded by other people as insanely motivated and dedicated to business as you are (thank god the years of being the freak in your high school are over...time to make a killing and prove them all wrong 10 years later, "Romy and Michelle"-style). Sophomore year and first half of Junior year are also difficult. But after that, since everyone's thisclose to getting out and either making it or not, it's all up to you whether you take hard classes or sail through the final year and a half.
Also, I just have to say: the Entrepreneurship and Finance departments are awesome.
Student BodyThere is a "typical" Babson student. Besides being driven as discussed above, many of us came from private high schools or international schools...and so those of us who came from public schools (like I did) need to work slightly harder to make our mark. But the environment encourages equality and everyone's embracing the challenge, so it's all good and those differences disappear almost immediately once you prove yourself up to the task.
In Closing...If you want to be a successful businessperson or entrepreneur, Babson is by far the best place on earth for you to go. If not, don't bother.
