I'm ready to transfer

Rating: 2/5 (72 ratings)
Introduction
The campus may seem big at first, but all the buildings are one central area, and you can walk from one end of campus to the other. The cost is fairly affordable. So far, I have not really been challenged in any of my classes. If you are an independent thinker, Ball State would not be the best choice. Also, if you are very unique or different, you'll feel alone here.

Campus Life and Social Life
There's always parties you can find. The sports aren't too great. The football team is one of the worst in the nation. Sports here are primarily centered around football and basketball, although some of the other teams are much better. There are also several club sports to play. Many of the sports teams don't get the recognition they deserve. For example, I just found out our school has an electric wheelchair soccer team. There are currently no kegs sold in town so you'll have to drink cans, but if drinking is your thing, theres plenty to get you drunk. If you don't drink, the weekends are extremely boring. The school does have an "alternative to drinking" party on Saturday nights, but it's pretty lame.

Academics
Architecture is one of the best programs in the nation. It's pretty rigorous and you will pretty much live in the studio. The education department is pretty big, as the school was originally a teacher's college. I've heard journalism is pretty good too. The professors are ok. All of my classes have been taught by professors. The workload varies from class to class. I had an honors biology class that was about food. It was discussion based and didn't have tests or homework. Pretty much everyone got an A. Then I've had classes that emphasize writing papers a lot.

Student Body
The typical student is from Indiana, and many come from rural areas. There isn't a lot of diversity here. It seems that almost everyone here is the same. You know, they shop at Hollister and similar stores, and they listen to mainstream music. You will quickly see that everyone looks the same. You won't see any goths or emos here. Again, if you are not like the typical student, you will feel quite out of place. It's really a go with the crowd environment. Not too much creativity here either.

In Closing...
If you are a fan of good music, don't go here. The only concerts so far were 2 country singers. The local music scene is pretty much dead here. If you have a car though, there are several cities about an hour away that you can drive to for concerts, including Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. The city of Muncie is not a very great city. There are more girls that go here than guys, so the guys have better odds. Most people don't live far from home, and thus maintain their high school relationships well into college.
