Beauty along the Brazos
IntroductionBaylor's claim to fame is that it's a Christian (Baptist) university. That being said, you don't have to be a Christian to come here, and no one is going to look down on you if you're a different religion. In fact, I haven't been to church since I've attended Baylor (shhhhh).
Campus Life and Social LifeWaco isn't the most exciting town, but there are things you can go do. The town is about 100,000 people, so to some it feels like a big city and others it feels podunk. However, the atmosphere here really helps you to focus during the week on school, and then you can go out and party thurs, fri, sat if you so choose. There's usually a bunch of Division 1 (Big 12) sporting events to go to each week as well.
AcademicsScience is especially big at Baylor. The Baylor Science Building is an amazing work of architecture and the inside is well equipped in terms of classrooms, labs and study areas. Most professors are awesome and I would talk to other students who can point you in the direction of good ones. I don't know of any particular departments that "suck". Workload- well, it's college, and you're gonna be studying your butt off whether you like it or not.
Student BodyWeekends are what you make it. You can stay at home and hang out with friends, you can go out to a party, you can drive 90 min to dallas or austin, etc.
In Closing...The campus is gorgeous. The basketball arena, ballpark, soccer field and tennis courts are on the banks of the Brazos. It only takes about 10 minutes to walk from one side of campus to the other. The gym has a huge rock climbing wall, weight room, indoor track, raquetball and basketball courts, an indoor swimming pool and aerobics classes. I really love this school and you have to come visit.
