Great Place to Come of Age

Rating: 5/5 (34 ratings)
Introduction
Even though it is private, Baylor has the feel of a state school, especially during the first two years. It is a great school for those Texans who don't get into A&M or UT becuase of the top 10% rule. As for the scene here, I'd say there is a place for everyone. There's even an Atheist/Agnostic club. Having said that, if you are very liberal and don't like conservatives, you might want to find another school...it is Texas, after all.

Campus Life and Social Life
One of the best programs at Baylor is "A Place 2 BU," an organization that coordinates events attended mostly by freshman but upperclassmen as well. Events include Battle of the Bands in the fall, Christmas on 5th Street, and Diadeloso (a random Thursday in the spring when all classes are cancelled).

Sports: there are some great sports teams (Lady Bears 2005 Basketball National Champs) and the school spirit is amazing. Almost every student gets caught up in the "Gold Rush" during football season, even if we aren't winning. On weekends, there is a pretty good party scene, including a couple of groups that only have dry parties. There is also a very good (and competitive) intramural program offering many different sports (including Dodgeball).

Academics
The Academics are very good. The school just opened a new Science building that houses all the lab sciences. The Business School has received national recognition and the Interior Design major just received accredidation.

Student Body
Most students are from Texas, although a good number come from California, Missouri, and Nebraska. WASP describes the average Baylor student, but there is some diversity. About 30% of students are involved in a Greek organization, but since the Greek influence is so prevalent, it feels like more students than that are involved.

In Closing...
Baylor is a great place to go to school. Waco is a cheap city to live in and 1.5 hours away from Dallas, Austin, and College Station.
