Home is where the Heart is
IntroductionBaylor is an amazing choice if you are looking for a school that will provide you with the complete college experience. From superior academics to a community-style environment, Baylor caters to the whole student. It is the one of the only schools in the nation that combines a faith-based mission with a committment to total excellence in all fields of study. Students who are looking for a place to just kind of "skate by" academically should be aware that this isn't a Bible college where the classes are easy and simply theology-driven. I chose Baylor for the fact that my Christian values would be supported throughout my educational pursuits, but I never would have considered attending if it hadn't been for the fact that I knew that a Baylor degree is well-respected in the professional world.
Campus Life and Social LifeYou can find anything you want to find as far as social life on the Baylor campus. We have well over 300 student organizations on campus, offering everything from Greek life (25% of Baylor students are Greek) to a DDR club. I promise, you can find your interest in one of our organizations... and if you can't, you're allowed to start your own! Baylor is a Division I school and a member of the Big XII; in the past few years, we have had both a National Championship Women's Basketball team (2005), National Championship Men's Tennis team (2005) and have added a brand new equestrian program. We also have an extremely large intramural program, claiming the largest intramural dodgeball tournament in the nation, in which probably 3/4ths of Baylor students participate.

AcademicsBaylor's academics are incredible! We have around 140 undergraduate majors, including the #1 undergraduate engineering program in Texas (it's ranked top 20 nationally). Our university scholars majors have a 100% acceptance rate into medical and law school! Baylor has wonderful opportunities for students hoping to continue their education as well; our law school has the top passing rate on the Texas Bar Exam and has the 2nd highest passing rate in the nation!
Professors at Baylor are probably the best part about academic life. I have never had a lecture class led by anyone other than a professor (I've only had a Graduate Assistant teach my lab classes). Our professors really embrace the concept of an "open-door policy" ... they even include their home phone numbers on their syllabi! They are totally dedicated to enabling students to accomplish their goals and are effectively "networked" to help students to make connections out in "the real world."
Student BodyThe typical Baylor student is dedicated to his/her education, strong in his/her faith (or at least open to the idea of faith) and is excited to get everything possible out of his/her time in college. After all, most students are only here four (or, for some, five) years, so they want to make as many memories as possible! A lot of Baylor students are from Texas, but we have a large number of out-of-state and international students as well.
In Closing...I've moved a lot throughout my short life, and I always wondered what I would tell people when I was an adult and they asked me where "home" is for me. As I'm entering my fourth (and final) year here at Baylor, I know the answer. Waco is now my home... and Baylor is where my heart is.
