The Baylor Bubble
IntroductionBaylor is an outstanding school for those who are looking for top academic programs, outstanding athletic programs, and a wide variety of involvement opportunities all within a Christian environment. It has both the advantages of a large university, but also the comfort of being a small community that feels like family. Baylor is a great place to be, but if you're not interested in a faith-based institution, it might not be the right fit for you.
Campus Life and Social LifeWith over 300 organizations, Baylor's social life is active and exciting! There are at least a handful of groups that every student can find interesting and become really be passionate about. Personally, I love being involved with the Greek life. There are countless opportunities to participate in off campus events, community service, campus-wide activities, and so much more!
Being part of the Big 12 is also a blast! While at times our football team might lag behind, our women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball, and all new equestrian teams step in to make our Green and Gold known. The excitement and spirit at the football games was actually one of the reasons why I chose Baylor. There's a huge sense of comradery among students and the rest of the Baylor family.
Most weekends are filled with different events (campus-wide activities, athletic events, service projects, and other events within one's own organization). I usually have to map out my weekends at the beginning of a semester and probably only have 2-3 weekends that don't have some kind of plans.
AcademicsBaylor has nationally recognized programs across the board! Some of our most popular programs would be Business, Engineering, the Pre-Med program, and the School of Music. However, we offer over 147 different majors that include Forensic Science, Bioinformatics, Musuem Studies, Social Work,Great Texts and Sports, Sponsorship and Sales.
Most professors are fantastic They really do care about students and make time to really get to you. I have had several "life conversations" with several of my profs and it's great to know that they really want to play a part in my life.
Baylor doesn't use TA's very often. The only TA's I've had are the instructors for labs and they often give review sessions or fill in for profs when they are out sick.
Baylor's classes are definitely not a breeze and the workload can be pretty challenging, but if you're serious about class, it's do-able. It's seems that some of my hardest classes have been the most interesting, so most of the time, I want to work hard to really learn the information. While I don't necessarily enjoy lots of papers and lengthy projects, most of the work seems very relevant.
Student BodyWe do have stereotypes of students, but there is such diversity in the student body, that it is hard to identify one type of student as representative of the general whole.
Students come from all 50 states and many different countries.
In Closing...I love Baylor! There are so many things that make Baylor an incredible University, but like any school, it's not perfect for everyone. It offers so many opportunities that I was looking for, but I know there are many other great universities out there, so good luck on your search!
