IntroductionIf you are coming to visit Bennington, talk to many different students, it is a highly personalized education and every one does really different things and therefore has really different experiences. I chose it because I wanted to be in control of my own education and because it seemed friendly and is absolutely beautiful. I am pretty motivated and independent and I love it here. Anyone who isn't probably shouldn't come to Bennington.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere is something here for everyone. There are lots of parties, many with really fun themes and dancing. There are people who drink and people who don't. If you don't like parties there is always something to do whether it is going to a concert, play, or lecture or just hanging out with your friends in the Upcaf. What's the best about the social life/campus life is also what is worst. It is a very small, intimate community.

AcademicsThe academics are somewhat demanding. I was an honors student, with a 3.7 unweighted GPA, at a competitive suburban high school. I do pretty well, but I also work pretty hard. There really aren't departments here. So far all of the professors I have had have been good, with a few really awesome standouts. There are no TA's, classes are small and discussion based.
Student BodyThere are students here from all over the country, and a few others as well. Many are actors, artists, dancers or musicians. There are also a fair number in the social sciences. Many of the students are divergent thinkers, people who like to think outside the box. Many people seem to have traveled a lot, many come from wealthy families, but not everyone. Money (and other stuff) is not flaunted or even very interesting to most of the students. We do like to have fun with clothes though, there are many funky dressers. Pretty much everyone is very liberal.
In Closing...Bennington seems to be growing in many ways. There is a lot of work going on in terms of the physical plant, a new student center, lots of renovation. The student body is growing in size and in strength of academics. The average SAT score went up 40 points this year.
