Bentley for Freshmen
IntroductionBentley is definitely a business school. International Studies is a distant second in terms of emphasis and resources, but still another option students pursue here. Students interested in the arts, or without a clear idea of what they want to study should steer clear of this school since it's a specialized environment that caters to specific interests and neglects others.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere's a heavy emphasis on drinking and there are students here doing that on a nightly basis. There's something of a hierarchy, though: if you're a freshman (guy, at least) prepare to be denied access to upperclassmen parties unless you have at least two females with you. In other words: A HOT GIRL IS MAN'S BEST FRIEND.
In terms of campus-sponsored activities, there are lots of options on any given night. No shortage of social outlets here.
AcademicsFor the most part, academics are reasonable and not overly strenuous if you don't want them to be. There are a set of required general Business courses that can sometimes be tedious (as required courses tend to be) but beyond that there's a wide range of choice of elective courses. As for professors, check out ratemyprofessor.com to the full scoop...
Student BodyMost of the students are from Massachusetts. Culturally and socially, it's a very diverse student body. From the drinking-obsessed to the athlete who believes his body is a temple to the stoner crowd to everyone in between. Most kids are what you'd describe as chill, which inevitably means lots of Dave Matthews on everyone's iPod (for better or worse!)
In Closing...The school's smaller size makes for a more personalized environment, in and out of the classroom. You really get to know your fellow students and your professors, if you make an effort to do so. As for life outside the quad, Boston is close enough for a jaunt into the city...and an awesome city it is.
