BOSTON COLLEGE
Rating: 4.9/5 (62 ratings)
IntroductionI chose BC because I wanted a school with strong academics and good student community. The big football, basketball, and hockey teams truly do foster this extreme comradery, especially when everyone is intoxicated and singing Sweet Caroline at the top of their lungs. BC is also beautiful and has easy access to Boston.
I think BC is a place that attracts a certain kind of person; preppy, athletic, and fun are standard, and you also have to be able to work hard.
Campus Life and Social LifeI was surprised as a Freshman when weekends began. I guess the question is...when do they end? The big nights are Thursday and Saturday, while Friday nights are more relaxed evenings, usually following sporting events. However, there is always something to do on Tipsy Tuesday and Wasted Wednesday.
The worst aspect of the social life is probably that most of it revolves around drinking if you stay on campus. Even to the Dance Shows and Karaoke Nights students are usually drunk. If you leave and go into the city however, there is tons to do that doesn't involve alcohol.
AcademicsIf you come to BC, be prepared to write a lot of papers. A LOT of papers. While tests are almost rare, the amount of written work often seems impossible (but it's not, it's just hard). The Lynch School of Education is AMAZING and are quite a family. However, students in other departments claim that the advising from above is pretty bad and that often they are left up to their own decisions, especially in A&S.
Professors seem to be a mixed bag. Class sizes are relatively small and I've heard of many incredible people but also many not so great ones. In addition, the core is rough and takes up a lot of time, so AP classes are suggested.
Student BodyBC attracts a certain kind of person. Many students are Irish-Catholic, Blonde, Blue-Eyed, Fair-Skinned, dressed head to toe in designer clothing, and perfectly accessorized with designer sun glasses and a nice bag 24/7. Stilletto heels and Uggs are the most common footwear, and pearl earrings are pretty much a must. Many students are wealthy and well put together, however some are not. Most people come from the North East, mainly Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey- and mainly from wealthy areas within their respective states.
In Closing...BC has so much to offer and is filled with so much opportunity and spirit!
