Great School in a Great City

Rating: 2/5 (85 ratings)
Introduction
My first criteria for colleges was a city. So I basically applied to all city schools and Boston is the ideal city and college town- you know you get the best of both worlds.
Freshman dorms, I mean, they’re freshmen dorms. You can’t expect much. I really can’t complain. I don’t think they’re that bad. You can get everything from your bed. Like how cool is that? You just make the best of it. That’s all.
The food is decent. When I actually eat here I usually get something along the lines of bread and/or cheese and/or ice cream, but it’s pretty good. Our Union- I eat there all the time- that’s good too. It’s really not that bad. I enjoy it.
I believe you can use your ID to pay at Dominos, and at the bottom of one of the dorms there’s this pretty good deli- you can use it there. You can use it at Campus Convenience, which has everything you’d ever need from band aids to pop tarts.
I personally never had a problem with my RA. He’s a really nice guy. He actually helped me hook up my ipod, which is nice.

Campus Life and Social Life
You can party sober in dorms, and you can—yeah, that’s about it. No you can’t really party—you can have a dance party. In the Boston party scene, there’s various 18 and over clubs and there’s also the 21 and over club that you can get in if you use illegal methods. It’s cool because obviously it’s a city and they cater to college students, so they have cool clubs. The police are actually pretty strict here. They know that 90% of the people that are out are underage. They’re on that. Club Mantra is a restaurant that turns into a club at night. I mean it’s kind of upscale, it’s pretty nice. Good times, just going out, really cool bathrooms. Underage drinking is hard. The liquor stores are very strict- I know several people who have gotten into trouble trying to buy alcohol. But some places it is, some places it isn’t, you learn your way. It really isn’t so easy being underage in such a cool city with such cool things to do, but we make do. I get around. There are other things to do besides party! I’m a big fan of museums. I really am. And BMFA just had a Ralph Lauren Car exhibit which was awesome. And there’s sports, there’s Fenway, you have Downtown, Faneuil Hall. You know, I love the cheesy tour stuff like the freedom trail and the Duck Tours…This city has more to offer than clubs and partying. It has a history and I appreciate it.
Academics
Personally, I think I would pick Boston over New York because I’m going to end up in New York later in life. And Boston is like a mini, cleaner, neater, nicer New York. It’s a nice place to start. By the end of 4 years you know everything about this city. By the end of 20 years you’d still know nothing about NY. It’s just you grasp it, you get it and then you can go to NY and do that next. I think the easiest school for meeting other Boston students is Boston University. Our nightlife coincides with Northeastern. But we also get a nice chunk of Tufts and Harvard. Everyone makes their way out. We’ve been to Harvard parties, MIT parties. You know friends from home, or you meet someone, you get to play with them too. I’d say it’s pretty easy to meet friends at BU. Within the first month I found my niche and they’re awesome, awesome people and I just keep accumulating friends. For a city school we have a decent Greek life. There are fraternities, sororities that personally, I don’t partake in. There are intramural sports that one of my friends did for a little bit. There are student governments, Hillel. There are religious organizations.

Student Body
I like my teachers, my professors. I’m taking a Medieval Intellectual History class which sounds killer, but it’s actually pretty cool and I really enjoy it. I’ve been lucky with my classes I guess, or maybe it’s just that all the classes here at BU are spectacular. I’d say BU academically is extremely hard…Anyone could get a B if they tried, but I find that as a decently good student in high school, I’m kind of thrown off by the fact that I have to bust my ass to get an A. The second half of this semester I’d say I spend 5 hours a day doing work just because I have so many papers to write in the second half of the semester. I have a research paper. I do a lot of work these days. I mean I did a lot of work this weekend, but the first half of the semester I did nothing. The Fellas are decent. I mean I can’t hate, it’s personal preference. Really cool guys. I have a bunch of best friends that are guys. I thoroughly enjoy them. Hooking up. Definitely. You’d be a fool to date. I don’t know if its easy to hook up, I mean if you have game, you can do whatever you want. Personally, I think the best thing about BU is just the people I’ve met here. My friends are awesome. And I know I’m going to walk away from 4 years with great friends for life, like bridesmaids for weddings, maybe roommates for my career. They’re just really cool people I met here. It’s really cool to hang on to them.
