Bucknell University, Objectively
IntroductionBucknell University is a very unique community- meaning that it is one big family to most, and an isolating experience for others. Come here if you are willing to work really hard, love having fun, and get along very well and very easily with people who have different attitudes about life. The stereotypical student at Bucknell is preppy, attractive, smart, and wealthy- and this is true to a large degree. However, students who come here find that if they don't fit into all of these categories, it does not matter in the least. People who come here love the school itself so much that they love just about everyone in it on the basis of their merely being here. When I applied here, I applied because my mother made me and I did not like the stereotype in the least. In spite of that, I'm here, and it was the best decision I've ever made... Bucknell really is my home and I love it here.
Stay away if you are quick to judge people, are argumentative, have a hair color that ranges the color spectrum (after two months, I garauntee it will be a normal color), or hold grudges agaist people from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
Campus Life and Social LifeThe dance parties here are amazing, there is a lot of hanging out in dorms, and usually at least one fraternity doing something. As a freshman, there is typically less to do because you cannot pledge the Greek system until sophomore year (freshmen girls can get into fraternity parties most of the time, but guys can only get in some of the time). For older students, mixers occur a few times a week. There is also some non-alcoholic stuff to do- we have a performance by a singer every 1-2 weeks in addition to our big acts each semester (311, Ben Folds, etc.), comedians, carnivals, a'capella groups, lots of various clubs, etc. Everyone here is naturally very social, so you really have to worry more about when you're doing your work... there will always be something to do.

AcademicsFirst, expect a lot of work- Bucknell is a fantastic school, and so a lot is expected of you. All classes are taught by professors, TA's only supplement or do some grading. From what I can tell, the English, economics, business, etc. departments are great, have good professors, and don't have unreasonable workloads. I am a biology major, and a lot depends on your professor. Regardless, if you put a lot of time into studying, then you will do well. If you take Organic Chemistry, stay away from professor Shawe... but there are some awesome Chem professors, too. Also, I live in a hall with engineers, and they all manage to have social lives as long as they work hard during the week.
Student BodyIn high school terms: the average Bucknell student is the prom queen/king, captain of the best sports team, and president of the class, WITH brains. Everyone here is unbelievably talented, hardworking, social, fun, and generally popular. This is also a great place for high school students who found themselves torn between different social groups (popular, nerdy, jock, etc.), because everyone here is a mix of prom queen, big nerd, and athlete.
In Closing...I absolutely love it here- just know, that everyone here is very driven towards perfection in all aspects of their lives: academically, socially, athletically, etc. And at the same time, they are very accepting of others who also demand excellence. The only people who should not come here are ones who (1) are not hardworking and (2) have negative attitudes. Otherwise, everyone can and will love and succeed here.
