For some... but not for others

Rating: 4/5 (56 ratings)
Introduction
This school seems to be pretty high end, bordering on Ivy quality. Most people scored very well on standardized tests, have extensive academic backgrounds, as well as diverse extracurricular resumes. It's most certainly on the "preppy"/ conservative side. I'm talking collared shirts, Dockers, daddy's BMW, new shoes and a generally well off undergrad population. Going Greek is almost unavoidable. If you are a very liberally viewed individual this school could be very challenging to find your niche. However, it is possible. After all, I made it 4 years in central Pennsylvania and believe me, I am not a preppy/ conservative person. If you want a high quality of teaching and highly intelligent student population this is a good choice. Also the liberal arts program allows for significant diversity in academic direction and the business and engineering schools are some of the best in the country. However, the campus lacks in undergrad population diversity, being predominantly white. If you are looking for a beautiful campus and closer-knit student body this is a good choice. Almost every face you see will become familiar within a few years. Also look to studying abroad or getting a car to travel because the isloated location of the school. Despite a beautiful campus there is good chance you will tire of central Pennsylvania fairly quickly.

Campus Life and Social Life
Bucknell has a great deal of things going on on the campus from sports to shows. The concert committee has significantly improved over the last few years to introduce a more diverse and wide spread collection if music. One example of this changing view was the Busta Rhymes fiasco of 2001 where only 500 people showed up compared to the several thousand for J5 and Keller Williams. Once again, the Greek system is strong and prominent. After all, I was a Lambda Chi Alpha for 3 years. (Who would have thought???)
Academics
This school seemed to be pretty high end, bordering on Ivy quality. Most people scored very well on standardized tests, extensive academic backgrounds, and diverse extracurricular resumes. Most every teacher is helpful and skilled at teaching. As with any academic environment you will find a few teaching duds. Very flexible liberal arts system and top of the line engineering and business schools.

Look to find some very attractive girls all over the place. However snooty and high maintenance they are. You'll probably come away from 4 years of school with a skewed, almost painfully high bar for women when you re-enter the "real world". This is an impressive honor for a school of 3500 undergrads being included with schools numbering as much as 30,000 like University of Miami.

In Closing...
You gotta give it a chance. I hated my first semester. Guys cannot party as freshman. They are simply not allowed into parties. But as the years go on everything the campus has to offer becomes open to you in the heavily frat driven party scene.
