Love It
IntroductionMy biggest piece of advice to anyone considering any school would be that no school is going to be perfect. Keep that in mind.
Bucknell actually wasn't my first choice...I was hooked on Juniata College and their brand spanking new science center. However, I ended up at Bucknell, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Honest. I've been so happy and felt so at home. What really made me consider Bucknell was my friend's older brother that went here - I talked to him one day about it while I was in high school, and he described dorm life - living co-ed - and how it was such a great community. It was the word "community" that picqued my interested.
A lot of kids that are very well-off go to Bucknell. Tuition is high, so that's sort of to be expected. I was initimidated by that at first, but I was comfortable enough with myself to not care that I didn't have as much as everyone else. Some of the people are very superficial, but you're going to find that everywhere. I think as long as a person is secure with themself, they can find their niche at Bucknell. I did, and relatively quickly. I went from a relatively insecure high school girl to a confident student with a very wide friend network. It's all what you make it.
Campus Life and Social LifeWhether or not you enjoy the social life here depends on what you're looking for. Freshman year, my friends and I didn't party, and we were never bored. There's actually a ton of stuff going on on the weekends - gameshows, comedians, sports, tournaments, concerts. If you're not into partying, there's no reason to be bored. Uptown - the nightclub - offers a lot of free concerts. The craft center is usually open till 9 or 10 at night, and you can learn how to do just about any crafty thing there. The 7th Street Cafe is a great hang out spot, and it's 24 hours now. Bucknell men's basketball is popular right now, and EVERYONE goes to the games. Greek life is extremely popular, and a large percentage of students are involved. There's a lot of community service organizations, religious student organizations a great, as well as some great leadership opportunities in various organizations. There's also some very active political organizations, if that's your thing.

AcademicsIt's not easy. Prepare to be challenged. I'm very partial to the Geology Department. We're very small, so we're very close - a lot of the students stay in the summer to do research, the professors throw Christmas parties and host picnics. We're kind of geeky, but we know how to have a lot of fun. The biology department also has a great group of professors. Those are the only two I'm really familiar with. Engineering at Bucknell is extremely challenging - they're ALWAYS busy. As for professors...I highly recomment Professor Trop. He's a geology professor and was my freshman advisor. I still go to him for everything.
Student BodyHaha, okay. There's the "stereotypical" Bucknellian, which is popped collars on the guys and pearls on the girls. We aren't all like that. I promise. There's also a lot of students who are down to earth and chill. You'll find all kinds. The one thing a lot of students have in common is that they're used to being the best...lots of students at the top of their high school classes. A lot of students are from the New Englandish area - Maryland and north. But there's a decent amount of international students. You can't really "describe" a student body. It's really not fair.
In Closing...Bucknell is great about helping students study abroad. I'm actually abroad in Barbados right now. Bucknell is beautiful, but you've got to be prepared to be in a small town that's relatively in the middle of nowhere. For me, it was exactly what I was looking for. Lewisburg is totally within walking distance, but there's not a whole lot to do there.
