Amazing School

Rating: 2.2/5 (18 ratings)
Introduction
This school is absolutely amazing for job opportunities and getting you hooked up with a great career. Dumb jocks and blonde bimbos need not apply. Parties are okay and there is always Upitt which is just 5 min away but state school kids would not be happy here. Make sure you actually like learning and care about what you study instead of always looking for the easy way out or the easy A. Carnegie Mellon will also take a chance on kids with great essays and E.C.'s and who want to come here but may not have the best GPA.

Campus Life and Social Life
Parties on Friday/Saturday and work on the rest of the days. Sports suck here except for the Steelers and Upitt but a lot of the stuff can be made up at Upitt. Some nice frat life though and a good diverse party scene. The good thing is that the university is pretty lenient on drinking and such since they know the students would probably mass suicide or revolt if they didn't have an outlet.
Academics
Amazing school for business and other majors. Repeatedly ranked high for its job recruitment and recruiter prestige. Probably the best school for what it does in terms of getting its kids to great jobs and top companies.

For example:

1. Tepper is the #1 highest avg base salary of any business school in the nation (tied with Wharton). 55k + bonuses + if you are above the median (remember this is just the median) = VERY good salary at 22 years old in New York.

2. The best Wall Street companies are Lehman Brothers, Merill Lynch, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, and the prestigious CGI-AMS in NOVA. According to that link, Tepper sends the most kids to IBM (5), JP Morgan (5), Merill Lynch (4), Lehman Brothers (4), and CGI (3-All Consultants). What does that tell you? Taking out IBM (which is pretty good too) you basically have Tepper sending the MOST kids to the BEST Wall Street companies. These companies are the "modes" for Tepper and every other company shows up less often than these. http://www.studentaffairs.cmu.edu/c...y/salary/ba.pdf

3. Carnegie Mellon is constantly ranked high for job recruitment such as "Hottest College to get a Job" and "Most Improved School" and "Recruiters's Fav for xxx".

Student Body
Typical student probably studies a lot but is surprisingly normal if you talk to him/her. They are not grade-grubbers and actually there are some slackers here. A lot of people are just plain normal although very very intelligent if you get to know them. There are quite a few frat boys here though some of the frats on campus border on nerdy. Make sure you check each out and know which one is the right one for you.

In Closing...
Absolutely great school for getting you on the fast track to whatever career you have in mind. The job salaries and companies recruiting are unmatched. I am very glad I picked this school over a lot of other top schools. Definitely the best value for my money.
