Not just for nerds.

Rating: 1/5 (100 ratings)
Introduction
Be prepared to work hard here. I was a slacker in high school, but being here makes you focus and try harder, juat don't expect to have much free time.

Campus Life and Social Life
A lot of the stereotypes about Carnegie Mellon are very true- we definitely have a lot of the creepy nerdy computer science, dungeons and dragons, cape wearing type of kids. But that's not to say that we don't have cool people either. There are deifnitely parties and really social people at this school, so if you're into that just get into that group and you won't really be bored on a weekend, there will always be at least a party or two going on. Aside from that, the school is always sponsering all sorts of things to do.

Academics
The professors are all really approachable, there are so many opportunities for extra help- walk in tutoring, office hours, SI sessions, and you can even get a free personal tutor on a weekly basis for the entire semester. Unless you're in the humanities or business schools, expect to work a lot.

Student Body
Typical students take their schoolwork seriously. A lot of Pennsylvanians, but also a lot of east coast (NY, NJ) kids in general. A LOT of asians and indians, very few minorities (hispanics, blacks). Way more boys than girls.

In Closing...
Don't buy into the stereotype of this school- there definitely are a lot of cool things and cool people that go unmentioned.
