The Case for Chapman

Rating: 3/5 (55 ratings)
Introduction
I chose Chapman because it is located on a really beautiful campus in Southern California. It's also a highly rated academic school and mainly for the "rich kid." But not the kind of rich kid you'd necessarily guess was rich unless you looked at his/her car. We're talking about the rich kid who was a little strange but neverless way popular with many groups of people in high school. And though spoiled, said rich kid is extremely nice.

If you like knowing a lot of people and having smaller kinds of parties with like 50 people max., you will love it here! But someone looking to have a huge party life everyday of the week should not go to Chapman. And certainly, someone coming from out of state with no car who's planning to just hang out at school all the time: STAY AWAY! Most of the people are locals and know the area and take advantage of the life outside of school. It gets really quiet on the weekends on campus.

Campus Life and Social Life
Sports at Chapman = lame. We have no school spirit here at Chapman. The teams are Division 3 and although most of them are decent, nobody ever really talks about them. Clubs / Greek organizations are pretty popular and basically reign the party scene. They are constantly holding events for the students. On the whole, partying is pretty decent at the beginning of the year but slows down 2nd semester. If you are a guy, you MUST join a frat or participate in a sport in order to party. Girls are fine anywhere...

Academics
Our Film School is ranked 2nd highest in the nation...and it shows!! They are now building a new facility that is amazing!! The Business School is good too. Most of the departments are good here. Math and Science are not as popular, since it's more of an artsy school, but they exist. Professors are really good here and I have absolutely loved most of them. In my experience, Math professors aren't as great and same goes for those in Poly Sci...but even so, the majority of professors here are really fun and extrememly smart. And although many of the students are really smart too, the workload and expectations aren't too hardcore. Tests can be difficult but homework isn't really present a lot of the time.

Student Body
The typical student is from Southern California and wealthy, with a unique sense of style. Everyone dresses really well and is committed to doing well in school. Most of them are really nice. One thing to note is that because everyone is pretty rich we have a lot of professional connections here at Chapman. We see famous people all the time (speakers, guests, etc.) and many are into film, theater, or business. But yes it is your typical OC environment.

In Closing...
Chapman's a good school. Partying can be frustrating on weekends and sometimes the school can be boring, but I'd say overall, the atmosphere is amazing. If you plan on living in the dorms, you are one lucky student. We may have the nicest dorms in California!
