A Cold and Snowy Home

Rating: 2/5 (21 ratings)
Introduction
Students who need a city, hate the snow or cold, or can't deal with walking up hills would be miserable at Colgate. But if you can get over those aspects of Colgate, the school is well worth it.

Campus Life and Social Life
On winter weekends, it's too cold to go anywhere...not that there really is anywhere to go...so typically, people just party in the dorms. They may also go and visit friends and parties at other dorms too, or sometimes venture "down the hill" (to the frats, sororities, and apartments) to party.
Academics
The workload generally consists of a ton of reading and class discussion. You don't really have to read everything: you can do however much work you want to. I've heard a lot of people say that Colgate is easier than their private high schools. And lot of people, especially guys for some reason, seem to have the attitude of, "I got in here, so now all I have to do is graduate and I'm set for life." Which is somewhat true.

Student Body
Most of the students are rich, smart, and usually very attractive. They have money to spend on nice clothes and go to the gym regularly. Students are from all over the country/world, with a good percentage from somewhere in New York State.

In Closing...
I spent the first semester of my freshman year at a big college in a city, then transferred here for the second semester. I absolutely love it. Actually having a campus where I can walk around and see other students I know, eating at the dining hall with a bunch of people from my dorm, and feeling the the small-town feeling of the big, happy Colgate family all outweigh the idea of having a city right outside campus for entertainment. I found that in Washington DC, at GW (where I used to go), people didn't even really have the time/initiative to use the city, but its presence had the negative effect that there was nothing going on on campus because everyone figured the students would be out in the city and wouldn't come. I feel SO welcome at Colgate and so happy to be here. I love all of it.
