Work Hard, Play Hard
IntroductionHoly Cross is full of the nicest people you will ever meet... just look at the alumni! They all stay so close, and have such great HC spirit! The type of student that should choose HC is someone looking for a work load that pushes them, a student body dedicated to community service and school pride, and someone who is looking for a great social life (mostly on-campus, although sometimes in Worcester or Boston or Providence). Only about 3% of students from HC end up transferring, and they seem to be the type of person that is not very social (aka keeps to themselves).
Campus Life and Social LifeThe social life on Holy Cross' campus (a BEAUTIFUL campus, by the way) is pretty diverse... for most people, it means partying in the dorms or at the off-campus houses on the weekends (jesuit school = no greek life... our equivalent is the sports houses, like the baseball and football house); but it can also mean going to a comedian on campus, or dancing downtown, or hitting up a basketball or hockey game. There's a lot to choose from, and while drinking is a pretty big aspect of the awesome party scene, it's not for everyone, and you can definitely find your perfect group.

AcademicsSince Holy Cross is a liberal arts college, every department is strong. Academics here are TOUGH, and students are constantly in the library or dorm study rooms trying to get through work. We do have an awesome social life, but you will definitely do your share of work here. There are no TAs, which is awesome -- who wants to pay tuition for TAs?!? Professors are really helpful with papers, exams, research, etc. The workload IS tough, but absolutely manageable.
Student BodyHC students come from almost 50 states and 25 countries... about 50/50 male/female, 17% minority students, 20% non-catholic, the students have started to become more liberal over the past few years, and there's also a good deal of socioeconomic diversity developing, thanks to HC's awesome financial aid... most students are very into school spirit (big crowds at basketball games), work a lot during the week, and have a lot of fun on the weekends. The majority of students are involved in SOME volunteer organization on campus, about 80% play organized sports (intramural, club, varsity), and other than that, there's over 100 organizations to get involved in. Just about everyone finds a very tight-knit group of friends here, and you'll always know people from classes and organizations if you feel the need to branch out.
In Closing...Visit the campus on a tour and DO AN OVERNIGHT OR DAY VISIT! It will help you see the usual Holy Cross life!
