Great School, Not Very Diverse
IntroductionI chose Columbia because of it's academic reputation. The liberal arts education one receives here is by far one of the best in the country. Those who have a one-track mind will find out very quickly that other things might catch your interest. Be prepared to do a lot of work. So if you're a slacker: stay away.
Campus Life and Social LifeSport and Clubs are very diverse here at Columbia. One can play at a competitive level without having to join a varsity team. Intramurals are very satisfying. Weekends start on Thursday night, which is good especially if you have to catch up or if you need that extra day for some more partying. Parties are generally okay, but can get rowdy at times. It all depends on who's throwing the party.

AcademicsIt's hard for me to tell. I think each department has its ups and downs. Workload in general can be tough but that's nothing a little time management can't handle. Remember that you've got some of the best minds teaching here, so take advantage of the opportunity to learn from them.
Student BodyUnfortunately like most Ivys, you can expect the greater part of the student body to be white. Minorities are present but not to the degree I've been used to. I think that the general mood of minorities is to feel that Columbia is tying to make them white. There is some sense in this and the only way we can counter it is by diversifying not only the student body but also the courses and the Core Curriculum as well.
In Closing...Come and you'll be guaranteed to find something you like. You'd be attending a great school in a great city with some of the brightest minds in the country. As a reminder, the food around here can be fairly expensive it's wise to save a few extra bucks here and there. Students here can either be very political or apolitical. That's the general trend here at Columbia at the moment.
