An Oasis in New London
IntroductionIf you are interested in a beautiful, quaint, New England campus, with a very close sense of community among all of the undergraduates, and tons of academic opportunities in and out of the classroom, Connecticut College is for you! On the contrary, if you are looking for a big, spread out school, huge on division-1 sports and tailgating, Greek life, and being anonymous in the classroom along with 500 other students, stay away.
Campus Life and Social LifeAll of the undergraduates are extremely proud to be camels. 98 percent of students live on campus in one of the many housing options, and practically everyone sticks around on weekends. there are always TONS for parties- Conn has a very open drinking policy- it is a piece of cake to get into keg parties. There are tons of things to do on campus- a capella concerts and dance shows are quite popular. There are many nationally known speakers throughout the year on campus, clubs for virtually any interest, Friday Night Concerts.. I could go on and on and on! It does get a little small after awhile, which is why fifty-percent of people study abroad for a semester.
AcademicsBEST departments: psych, econ, international relations, government, art, biochem, dance, history, religious studies, neuroscience, east asian studies. In general, the psych department has the best profs because there isn't anyone there who is weak, as opposed to other departments which have their brilliant profs and their painful profs. WEAKEST departments: math, computer science, physics, classics, film studies
Most classes are under 20 students, except for a couple of the intro classes (i.e. religion, psych, bio), and there aren't any TAs teaching, EVER.
Student BodyStereotypically upper class New England prep school kids. But in reality, there are plenty of hippies, musicians, artists, jocks, non-partiers, gamers - there is definitely a niche for everyone! There are also plenty of specialty housing options too for an even greater sense of community.
In Closing...Awwww cc! It's a shame the school is so underrated- it truly is a hidden gem.
