Opportunities Galore
IntroductionI Chose Dartmouth for the academic and athletic opportunities they provide me with here. I was recruited by a bunch of Ivy League schools – came out and visited Dartmouth, in the winter, it was about 0 degrees and -20 at night, but I fell in love with the campus and the people here. Football program just had big transition, as we pretty much re-staffed our whole coaching staff this year. We have Buddy Teavons – the old Stanford coach here in the early 90’s to come back and coach again and he’s hopefully going to turn program around. A lot of people are involved in athletics around here and its pretty good – its real fun. A lot of people come to the football games, the basketball games – hockey’s really big out here, people get pretty rowdy at those games – it’s pretty fun
Campus Life and Social LifeThere a lot of events during the day of Winter Carnival, like ice skating on the pond and stuff like that and at night pretty much all the frats and sororities have big parties and it’s just a really fun weekend. The party scene is mostly Frat houses – you can go to any number of frat houses during the weekend and its pretty fun. There’s not really house parties – which was a different scene for me – but I really like it here. That’s the stereotype - Animal House was based on Dartmouth and that we consume more beers than any other school – people drink a lot here but it’s going to be like that at any school.

AcademicsA lot of people are just here to learn – they’re not planning on going to Grad school so they take classes to get the most out of them. But they’re not ultra-competitive. But you will get that competitiveness out of a lot of people who are trying to go to Med school – who are trying to go to Law school. I think it’s a really good atmosphere to learn in.
Student BodyThe winter – It can get pretty bad. I’m not going to lie, but the good thing about Dartmouth is that we have the D Plan, which means, me for example, next term, I’m going to take a transfer to UC Santa Barbara and then my junior year winter, I’m going to get an internship maybe in New York or back in California. Really – you only have to be here for 2 winters, which is really nice. And to make up for that, you stay here your sophomore summer, which I’m told is a great time.
