The Deal on Davidson

Rating: 1/5 (96 ratings)
Introduction
If you want to come here, expect to work. The professors don't mess around, and the classes are tough. Kids who have made straight As all their lives start making Cs and Ds. It is totally realistic, however, you just need good time management. Don't come here if you just want to get away from mommy and daddy to party. If you party on the weekdays, your grades will drop. You can't get away with that here. Also, attendance is required in most classes. Since its a small school, each class might only be offered one or two times, so you may be forced into 830s. This is a good place to be if you're very self-motivated and really want to learn. The professors WILL help you, they are all really understanding. But they won't just give it to you. You have to work for it.
I chose Davidson because of the BEAUTIFUL campus, the southern atmosphere, the relationships with the professors, and the honor code. It really is a great place. But its not for everyone.
Slackers stay away! You'll die here! Check out a state school instead. If you're one of those kids who got a 1600 on the SAT but barely passed high school, don't even bother applying. You have to want to work here.

Campus Life and Social Life
There is something for everyone on campus. If you want to party, the court has stuff going on every weekend. If you're not into that scene, the Union Board plans activities for every Friday and Saturday night on campus (paint your own pottery, hypnotists, ect.) Also, there's plenty of good restaurants right off the interstate. Movie theaters are close by as well. Davidson feels removed, but it's super close to Charlotte. Boredom is not really a problem.

Academics
Supposedly Physics and Economics are the hardest departments. But everything here is pretty tough. Almost all the professors are hard, there's no escaping it. The workload is tough but manageable. I haven't had to stay up past midnight studying yet, and I've been doing fine. I also work 10 hours a week and am pretty involved in some other stuff. You can totally do it, you just have to manage your time well.

Student Body
The typical student is white, Protestant, and the wearer of a Lacoste polo, complete with popped collar. Most of the students are from the South, but we really have people from all over. I have friends from Seattle, Florida, Texas, New York, Hawaii, Georgia, West Virginia, California, etc. Most of the students here like to party, but they are also really smart and want to do well in school. A lot of kids go to church on Sundays.

In Closing...
Davidson is amazing for the highly motivated. It's definitely the perfect place for me, but I really want to be here. It's expensive, and it's not worth your parents money if you're going to slack off.
