A Little On Denison University
IntroductionBe prepared and aware that Denison University is a small school. By the end of sophomore year, you know most people at the school. Since it's a small school the party scene is very big here. If you hate to party then this school is probably not for you. Also, Greek life is pretty big here, too. While it is not imperative, most kids are involved in it in some way. While not exclusive, the Greek community dominates a good portion of the school. If you hate the idea of Greeks, this probably isn't a good fit for you.
Campus Life and Social LifeThere are parties all the time. There is seldom a quiet weekend on campus. It may be hard to meet a lot of kids if you don't party or are averse to participating in club activities. If you want a school that is really into sports, Denison is not it. Our lacrosse team is popular, but unless you have a friend on other sports teams, you probably won't go to the games. However, club sports are extremely big and most of the student body is involved in one. There are a ton of clubs for kids to partake in, and anyone can find at least two clubs that would interest them.

AcademicsOverall, the academics are very good. The communication, economic, biology and political science departments are the most popular. Classes are generally smaller and teachers know students on a first name basis, which is rare and nice. The workload is hard, yet manageable. A little on my involvement: I'm a communications major and economics minor, I'm on the crew team and hold an executive position, I also juggle executive responsibilities for a sorority, and I'm involved in several other clubs. This just goes to show that the work load and involvement do not have to be exclusive of each other and all things are doable. Most students take a heavy course load but still participate in sports, clubs and parties, which balances out work and play and makes the most of your collegiate experience.
Student BodyThe student body is small. Most kids are preppy, so if you don't like this sort of scene, don't go to Denison. There are few (if any) punk kids here. While many students are from Ohio, there is a large population, like me, who are from New England. Generally the student body is from upper middle and upper classes. This does not mean everyone, but most students have expensive clothing and accessories. The students are nice to eachother, though, and because of the small community, you know most of them.
In Closing...Denison will be what you decide it will be for you. All of life, in fact, is what you make of it.
