DRAKE UNIVERSITY....BOOOOO

Rating: 2/5 (91 ratings)
Introduction
My biggest advice would be to go where you can get the most scholarship money. This is especially important when you go to a private school where tuition is out of this world! Also, you should consider the academics part and whether your school is well-known for anything like its business school or its pharmacy school (like Drake).

Campus Life and Social Life
The social life/campus life here is not too bad, there is always something to do however the only downside is that there just are not that many people here to do anything with. We have a very small campus, I believe 6,000 in enrollment. There is a pretty good international student population though. Sports here are usually not that exciting unless we are playing outside our conference, like with Division I-A schools like Univ. of Iowa or Iowa State. There is usually one good week of partying each year which is during Drake Relays, which we are nationally known for. That would be the best time for a campus visit/tour if you want to really research campus life/social life here at Drake.

Academics
I think the academics here are great. Being that the largest class I had was a lecture of about 60 students, other than that classes are usually no more than 20 and very discussion based. The professors push you hard to acheive your highest potential. Classes are not easy, you cannot blow off your work here until finals time or you will be sunk. I am only a student of the Arts and Sciences school, but I hear that the business school and especially the pharmacy school are extremely challenging.

Student Body
The typical student here at Drake is white and is either from Minnesota or Wisconsin. Most of them are from small towns and haven't really seen a minority outside of television, or they came from a bigger city where they knew the 5 minorities and considered them as "hilarious" and "hella cool". The typical student at Drake is very motivated but knows when to play and have a good time. Also, many students on campus are involved in the Greek system.

In Closing...
Ummm, I'd have to say if you're looking for a constantly booming environment, exciting people, Drake would not be the first or even second place to look. The campus stays fairly quiet, and most of the people here stay to themselves or are involved in the Greek system and stay with their brothers/sisters. OOOO and stay away if you like quality food because that is NONEXISTENT here, the food is absolutely horrible except for the cookies in the olmsted cafe only because they are prepackaged and not made by the food service company(Evil SODEXHO).
