Duke Just Rocks!
Rating: 4.8/5 (30 ratings)
IntroductionDuke is the most amazing place on earth!! I picked it over the ivy leagues because you can get an amazing education but without it being quite so maliciously cut-throat. Plus, it exemplifies work hard, play hard. There's something for everyone here. Anyone who has the grades and activities to get in should definately consider it. I cannot imagine being as happy with any other school. Duke is incredibly beautiful, and although Durham isn't the greatest, it isn't horrible either. And you can always go visit that other school 8 miles down the road if you need a better city (though NOT a better school). The people here are great, the campus is beautiful, the social scene is great, and then there's basketball. I wasn't a fan before I came here, but now I'm hardcore! There's NOTHING like it. Where else do people camp in tents for months just to see a game? And where else does it mean so much? And where else are the fans as classy? Nowhere.
Campus Life and Social LifeA lot of the social life is dominated by Greeks, and Greeks make up like around 40 percent of the student body. While I love being Greek (even though I'm not your typical 'sorority girl'), you don't HAVE to be Greek because everything is open and accepted.
As for sports...we have tons of really good teams. And, of course, basketball creates its own social scene with Krzyzewskiville, especially during "personal checks" or the last two nights before a game when essentially the entire study body comes to hang out (and get drunk).
Clubs...basically, you name it, we've got it.

AcademicsAcademics are great here. Classes are tough but professors are generally nice and approachable. Duke's reputation for solid academics is in no way fabricated - I've experienced its academic excellence first hand.
Student BodyThere isn't a "typical" Duke student. We get stereotyped as uber-rich and preppy, and while there are many students like this, they are by no means the only type of people here. We've got everything you could ask for. I guess you could say that the vast majority of people are just really nice, even if they do differ from you in important ways. Obviously everyone is really smart, but that doesn't mean that the students don't party. I once heard someone say, "Just remember, the coolest guy here was a nerd in high school." While that may not be entirely true, it is important to understand that all these people are really smart but know the difference between excelling in the classroom and enjoying everything outside of it, too.
In Closing...Duke is the greatest school EVER!! I'm going to be incredibly sad on graduation day! I never could have dreamed I'd love this place so much. You come to love it more with each passing day.
