Party School!
IntroductionComing from high school, students don't need to be in the top of their class to be accepted, around a 3.0 is sufficient. I chose the school because I wanted to go further south, but still be close to home (2-1/2 hrs from Richmond, Virginia). East Carolina has a pretty campus with uniquely, almost California style buildings. There's grass, trees and lots of squirrels. If you're a freshman, West End is definitely the place to be! The only people that might want to stay away are those who want an awesome academic school with very little partying.
Campus Life and Social LifeEast Carolina definitely lives up to it's "party school" title, there is always something going on, from the downtown nightlife to the house parties, Greenville is a college town. Although, if you aren't into partying there is little else to do. Downtown has only a few little boutiques and place to eat here and there. The mall is not the greatest and the local movie theater has little to offer. Football is pretty big here, even though the team is not that good. You will know when it's game day: lots and lots of tailgating then off to the game! The weekend starts for almost everyone on Thursday night and goes through Sunday.

AcademicsAcademics at East Carolina are second place to partying and social life. Missing classes is done with ease by many students. Although, the Communications department is filled with wonderful professors who are very enlightening, the Nursing and Interior Design schools are definitely the most difficult. The workload varies but usually won't interrupt the partying too much.
Student BodyA typical East Carolina student dresses casually in shorts/sweatpants and t-shirts for classes and is usually sporting an "East Carolina" shirt. Rainbows (flip flops) are worn by 85% of the students. On Wednesdays you can see all the sorority t-shirts you want. Occasionally you will see one or two students dressed up for class. Most students are from North Carolina as the school will only accept 18% out-of-state students. A surprising amount of students are from New Jersey and few to none are from anywhere south of North Carolina. 90% or more of the students are into partying... not academics.
In Closing...I now understand that although any school can be a "party school", (when a school is known for being one and is rated #9 by Playboy magazine for its Halloween) a real "party school" means that partying is their top priority and they put that above all else.
