Parties and Great Profs

Rating: 1/5 (66 ratings)
Introduction
I wanted to stay somewhere in the South and Emory was one of the best schools in the South East. And also, I wanted to go to a private school.

Campus Life and Social Life
It’s a huge party campus, but the administrators don’t like people knowing that. But there is a party on campus everyday of the week. Supposedly, only a third of the school is Greek, but it’s huge. You don’t have to be Greek to go to the parties Freshman year, pretty much that’s your social life, the Frats. There are lots of different cliques. Some are really materialistic. You’ll see people complaining because their parents took away their charge cards after they charged a few thousand one week. But actually, they’re really nice. It’s a pretty rich school but they really don’t look down on anyone who doesn’t have money and most people really don’t care about material things.

Academics
The teachers are very hard, they’re world-renown teachers. Actually my teacher had to keep leaving to do interviews. But they’re really helpful and they actually seem to care about the students. Most of the class sizes are pretty small so you really get to know your teachers. Some of the teachers basically are really lenient. Their thought is, you’re paying for the class, if you want to show up, show up. But other ones have attendance policies where you can only miss like two classes, but they’re very lenient about excuses as to why you couldn’t show up and letting you make up the class.

Student Body
Emory tries to rid itself of Party-school rep. Emory ranked as one of the top 5 party schools one year so they cut all the party activities. The Bar, right off campus is called Maggies, which every single night is packed with Emory Students. So everyone goes there.

In Closing...
Basically to succeed here, you really have to take the courses seriously. And basically you just have to really have an open mind because this is a very open campus. A lot of people are surprised at how big the Gay and Lesbian community is. We have pride week here, all denominations are here even though it’s a Methodist campus, you would really never know. And there’s also a huge Libertarian group here.
