Skeleton on campus?
IntroductionI was a little different coming from Idaho to a big city. But I really fit in, I enjoyed it. One thing I got involved in real quickly was all the different clubs. And that was a great way to meet people, get involved and have something to do in the evenings.
Campus Life and Social LifeFreshman year, I lived in Dobbs Hall, which does have the smallest rooms on campus but I really enjoyed it because it’s a very active dorm and it’s easy to get to everything you’re right across from the University Center, you’re right next to the field where all the bands play. You’re next to Fraternity row- your classes are maybe a minute, a minute and a half away. So you can literally get up in bed and be in class in 15 minutes. They’re double room and they are small but there’s plenty of room for everything. It’s also a co-ed hall so there’s a guys room, girls room. The really great thing about it is you’re in the middle of campus. You’re right across from the University center. You’re right next to the field where all the band performances are. You’re right next to the classrooms. So it’s really great, really easy to get around.

AcademicsI think there’s quite a bit of school spirit. Last week was our Dooley’s Week, which is our annual School spirit week. And it involves our unofficial school mascot is a Skeleton and he walks around with a group of body guards and he’ll actually let out classes without the professor’s permission and we have several activities over the evening. We had a concert with Pat Green, various activities out on McDonough field and it culminated in a Dooley’s ball Friday night, which is probably one of the biggest activities on campus all year. So there’s school spirit, more around social activities rather than football team.
Student BodyThe Residence Life actually implemented a new policy right now. Emory has First Responder Units which are volunteer EMTs. And they’re who you call if you’ve been drinking too much or your residence advisors will call if there’s medical concern. And up till this year and actually including this year, if you had to call EMTs because you drank too much you’re automatically subject to conduct violation through Emory’s conduct council, but they’re changing that next year where it’s recognizing that people do drink and that it’s better to be safe than sorry. That you get one amnesty if you have to call because of either drug or alcohol overdose they’ll treat you, take you to the hospital w/o any conduct violation. So Emory realizes that it does happen and try to make accommodations within the law to allow you to drink safely when you do have to drink.
In Closing...Overall it’s a good school. I really enjoy it, the weather is great, it’s a good city, Atlanta’s a good city to be in. As far as the school itself, the academics are really diverse.
